Through the Writers’ Circle residency program, we facilitate on-site writing workshops for adults in education programs, workforce programs, and other settings. Writers’ Circle offers a rare chance for adults with low literacy to focus on their personal stories while developing their writing skills. Participants engage in peer editing and experience writing as a social process. Each two-month residency culminates with the publication of the group’s writing.
“We would get very excited by the fireflies. We would wait to catch them at night, study their movements, and finally set them free. Even my little brother would free them. But first he would rub them all over his body; he was happy because his clothes would be illuminated for a few minutes. Or, we could lean back under the fresh, wet grass to admire the sky, so pure and free of pollution, full of stars. I had the sensation that it was just a few inches above me and if I raised my arms I could touch it.”
