When you work with kids, you work with parents, too. PACE-PD staff training services help schools and community-based organizations work effectively with parents who may have low literacy skills. Professionals learn adult education approaches that build parents’ trust and confidence while focusing on the parent as a respected adult with the power to help a child learn.
At PACE-OK Learn Workshops, parents discover ways to encourage their children’s learning, language, and literacy development. OK Learn sessions are offered singly or as ongoing residencies at community-based organizations, schools, and other places that promote parent involvement. Workshops help participants:
- Discover ways to expand children’s vocabulary and help them learn during daily routines.
- See how talk promotes children’s social-emotional development & self-management skills.
- Read children’s books out loud with confidence and expression.
- Learn to use books as the basis for rich conversation that prepares children for school.
