Succeed with Literacy

Literacy Works' Succeed with Literacy workshops help low-income teens and adults develop the literacy and language skills they need to find employment and communicate effectively at work.

Workshop sessions are interactive, with opportunities for participants to observe, discuss, and practice interviewing, application, and other skills. Each participant receives a binder of materials, created by Literacy Works, for practice and for record-keeping.

Succeed with Literacy workshops are designed to meet in two-hour weekly sessions across 7 to 10 weeks. Students gain confidence when they see their skills rise, as their own words demonstrate:

  • It was a good workshop, it helped me understand working better.
  • Now I know I can fill out a real application!
  • It helped me get my job.

Literacy Works presents Succeed with Literacy workshops to students at literacy programs and clients at other organizations serving adults with low literacy skills.
A literacy coordinator summed up the impact of Literacy Works' workshop:

The students now have a better understanding of the pieces, or tools, it takes to get a job: what an employer is looking for and how they should approach an employer.

The best part of the program is that they achieved a greater sense of hope that they are people who someone might want to hire-- they feel worthy of getting a job.
